General Information: General Rules and Guidelines:

Most importantly, have fun. This is a game and is meant to be enjoyed.
With that said, remember that sportsmanship is part of playing a game. Please exercise good sportsmanship while playing, or at the very least refrain from insults.

If an Admin is present, you will most likely receive a warning or two if your behavior is unacceptable. Further infractions will result in your expulsion (being kicked) from the server, and you will probably be banned for a number of games.

Insulting Administrators is not tolerated and will result in immediate, permanent banning. You are a guest in someone else's "house" so show some respect.

Camping of any type is frowned upon. The server is set to kill players who camp, but there are ways to camp and avoid being killed. It's simply that there must be some leniency or virtually everyone will be considered as camping if the server is set too tightly. (This applies more to the Delagged server.)

Staying on the top platforms in Q3DM17 and simply jumping from side to side via the launch-pads is camping. Yes, higher ground is a strategic advantage, but sitting up there and picking people off as they spawn is an illustration of bad sportsmanship. Camping can get you kicked, banned or both.

Chat fragging is discouraged as well. It happens sometimes, and can't be avoided now and then. Someone is running away and you nail them just as their chat bubble pops up. D'oh! It happens. But deliberately fragging chatting players is against house rules. Don't do it. The server has to be set pretty loose because of accidental chat frags, but many people abuse it. If an Admin sees this, you will be warned only once. If you continue to chat-frag and the server doesn't kill you, the Admin may kick you, ban you, or simply reduce your score appropriately by forcing a suicide upon you. (Yes, we can kill you just as if you typed /kill in your console.)

Some people ask why the field of view (cg_fov) is locked at 90. The answer is simple: It protects you from some cheaters. Setting your cg_fov to anything above 180 allows you to see around corners. Not practical to use for a whole game, but bind it to a key to turn on and off when you want, and you have a poor-man's version of a wall-hack.

Additionally, cg_fov affects game physics. Just as capping your frames per second (com_maxfps) at 125 gives you the best physics, changing your field of view to higher values (or lower in some cases) affects not only how you see the game, but also how the server sees you.

But beyond those points, cg_fov is a setting that many newer players are unaware of. It gives you an edge to set your FOV to 110, or 120, no question. You can see more area around you, so it's easier to track more opponents. But if everyone isn't using the same FOV, then it's NOT a level playing field, and that's what good sportsmanship is about. When it comes down to winning or losing, it should be a question of skill, not tweaks to the game.

Capping your FPS to 125 is something that can help your game, but mostly, it just gives you a smoother experience. Imagine you're in a car driving, and you speed up on straightaways and slow down on turn. Now imagine you do the same speed all the time, regardless of turns or straight roads. It's a much more comfortable ride, and less stress on your car. Its kind of the same when you cap your FPS at 125. If your hardware can handle it, its much better for you to see the same FPS constantly than see it go up and down a lot. The game physics are directly related to your FPS. There are things you can't do at 85FPS (the default setting).

For example, in Q3DM7 (Temple of Retribution) you can't clear the lava pit with a single strafe-jump if you aren't getting at least 120 FPS. (125 is better but it CAN be done at 120). There are plenty of players out there who get 85 or fewer FPS and they do just fine. It's one of those things that you don't need but once you have it you'll miss it if it's gone.
